Unsafe Drugs – An Insight

Over the counter and prescribed drugs brings relief from various health ailments but sometimes these drugs may cause injuries. This happens because clinical trials are not good enough to detect the side effects of drugs prescribed.

According to the recent news, drugs are pushed through the clinical trials and FDAs approval process. Thus putting the consumer to the risk because drugs are not tested properly and may prove harmful to them. Such drug approvals cause countless injuries and deaths every year in United States. Americans consuming defective drugs suffer from side effects of such drugs.

It is the responsibility of doctors, drug manufacturers and pharmacists to make sure that the drug consumed by patient is not harmful to them. Some drugs causes long time injuries while some of them have hazardous side effects. Though, FDA is a regulatory body of monitoring and approving the drugs, manufacturer is responsible for any injury caused to the patient from the drugs.

From the past few years, it has been observed that dietary supplements and prescribed drugs may cause health problems and injuries. Since the year 1993, 10 drugs have been withdrawn from the market as these drugs are found to cause serious health problems.

For example, as consumption of the prescribed drug, Vioxx, leads to increased heart attacks, blood clots, cardiovascular complications and stroke, it was withdrawn from the market.

The current investigations related to dietary supplements and unsafe drugs includes Fen- Phen , Bextra ,Accutane ,Baycol, Ephedra ,Oxycontin , hormone replacement therapy particularly Prempro ,Serevent, Ortho-evra , Phenylpropanolamine (PPA), Vaccines containing Trileptal, Zyprexa ,Thimerosal and Vioxx. Consumption of these drugs causes serious health problems and sometimes-even death.

Patients purchase these drugs believing they are safe as the doctors or pharmacist they trust has approved them. Most of the defective drugs do not carry warning on their labels. Thus, these drugs can cause serious health ailments like blood pressure, kidney failure, acute liver failure etc.
