Paxil – A study

Paxil, a SSRI, is used for the treatment of depression. GlaxoSmithKline manufactures it. SSRIs including Paxil increase the risk for suicide in the patients suffering from depression. Recently, FDA advised that the drug should not be prescribed to the children below 18 years of age. Side effects of using Paxil includes the sudden weight gain, difficulty in withdrawing the drug, dependency symptoms and psychological symptoms such as anxiety , panic attacks and aggressiveness. Pregnant women should avoid the use of Paxil because it can cause birth defects.
