Know All about Peanut Butter

The Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) manufacturers Peanut Butter and sells it from its Blakely, Georgia plant. According to the United States Food and Drug Administration, this Georgia plant of PCA is contaminated with salmonella bacteria. After consuming the contaminated lots of peanut butter, more than 45 states reported of salmonella infections with similar genetic fingerprints. According to the estimation of reports, there have been 8 deaths and 493 cases of illness linked with the usage of contaminated peanut butter. This recall affects 22 lots of peanut butter manufactured by PCA ranging from ten to fifty pounds and various different brand names like Parnell’s Pride and King Nut peanut butter.

The Peanut Corporation of America (PCA) is now trying to contact the customers who consumed peanut butter via telephone or in writing. The PCA mentioned that all the recalled products have been sold in bulk to a distribution company, servicing large institutions such as retirement communities, food service industries and school cafeterias. However, no contamination has been reported in any of the consumer brands of peanut butter but the company has recalled some of the consumer products containing peanut butter.

In the year 2007, ConAgra recalled Great Value and Peter Pan peanut butter starting with the product code 2111 that was already distributed. This manufacturing company also destroyed all the consumer products due to the risk of contamination with Salmonella Tennessee. ConAgra also advised consumers to destroy any Great Value and Peter Pan brand of peanut butter starting with product code 2111. Reacting to this announcement, the Food and Drug Administration sent the team of investigators to Con Agra processing plant in Georgia and Sylvester. The team reviewed the records, collected product samples and conducted tests for Salmonella Tennessee. This contamination affected many more than hundred of consumers across 39 states.
