Human Body Tissue – An Insight

The human body tissues industry comprises of the harvesting of human body tissue, the production of tissues products and then the distribution of both. Health care professionals use human body tissues in various medical procedures including organ transplants and dental implants, skin and bone drafts. Doctors collect these tissues used in these procedures from the tissue banks from hospitals, morgues, funeral homes and universities.

The human tissue industry in the United States is extremely unregulated which in turn has led to the transfer of severe diseases to the patients undergoing tissue grafts. In February 2006, the United States federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) asked Biomedical Tissue Services Ltd., a tissue distribution and collection company to stop distributing tissue products because of ethical and medical violations exposed by an extensive investigation.
