Fentora

Fentora is a medication for reducing pain. It contains Fentanyl Buccal, an opioid analgesic. Janssen Pharmaceuticals first synthesized it in the 1950s and its potency was eighty times higher that of morphine. This medicine is used for the treatment of cancer pain in the patients who become opioid-tolerant.

In September 2007, the U.S. Food and drug Administration became anxious due to the misuse and mis- prescription of Fentora. Therefore, FDA issued Cephalon, manufacturer of Fentora, two “Dear Healthcare Professional Letters”, to update the doctors and prescribers about the safety information related to Fentora. Patients treated with Fentora suffered from several side effects including death. These deaths occurred due to improper dosage or improper substitution of products.
