Delta Enterprises Announces Recall of about 2 Million Cribs

On October 21, 2008, Delta Enterprise Corporation of New York announced to recall approximately 2 million drop side cribs. This recall was announced after the reports that two infants suffocated and died when the crib’s drop side disconnected.

If the safety pegs in the base of the crib’s leg goes missing from the lower track, there id high possibility that for the crib’s lock to disengage and then detach if reduced below the peg hole, making a dangerous gap. This gap causes suffocation and entrapment of a toddler or an infant.

Infant Injuries and Deaths Reported

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) stated the death of a five-month-old infant who entrapped and then suffocated after the detachment of the drop side of the crib in the reassembled crib where there was no installation of the safety pegs. Other then this there were reports of nine disengagement and two entrapments incidents linked with crib where the safety cribs went missing.

The Delta crib voluntarily withdrawal includes 986,000 cribs related with Delta’s” Crib Trigger Lock with Safety Peg” drop side hardware and approximately  599,000 cribs with Delta’s “Crib Trigger Lock with Spring Peg” drop side hardware.
