The United States law offers protection against the denial of any person’s civil right based on race, sex, religion, and physical limitation, previous condition of servitude, age, religion and national origin.

There are many civil right lawsuits tried in the United States in several areas ranging from public housing to public education and access to public facilities to voting. In America, civil rights are enumerated in the Thirteenth and Fourteenth Amendments, in the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and in the Bill of Rights. The Supreme Court in the United States plays a very important role in elevating government protections of civil rights.
